The HPE SimpliVity 380 and 325 Gen10 series is HPE’s Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) solution built on HPE’s Proliant DL380 and DL325 Gen10 server platforms. They provide advanced functionality for numerous HCI workloads, making them a great addition today’s traditional infrastructure stack.
What is Simplivity?
Simplivity is one of HPE’s hyperconvergence platforms. Simplivity is a compact, but scalable solution that dramatically simplifies VDI, edge, and virtualized workload deployments. Simplivity builds off of HPE’s decades of storage, compute, and networking expertise.
HPE also offers the Alletra dHCI option for customers requiring greater scale, as well as a wealth of other storage networking services and products.
Simplivity 380 and 325 Gen10 Models
The SimpliVity Gen10 series are fully integrated systems that combines x86 resources, storage and networking. Coming in a 2U and 1U form factors, they are compact enough for small data center deployments, while offering the flexibility to expand to up to 96 nodes for peak and predictable performance, and excellent scalability. SimpliVity products are optimized for VDI, edge computing, backup, general virtualization use cases, and other advanced data services.
Clusters can be expanded without downtime, and both storage and CPUs can be added for improved expandability. HPE recommends all customers start with a minimum of two nodes for high availability and to realize the benefits of HCI. The 380 can also be federated with other SimpliVity models including the 325 and legacy 2600 series.
Key technical specifications include:
- Built-in resiliency for enterprise-grade data protection and backup and disaster recovery deployments
- Deduplication and compression for up to 10x improved capacity utilization.
- Simplified, intelligent management leveraging HPE Infosight.
- Scalable memory configurations from 128 GP to 3072 GP per node.
- Flexible network configuration options with available 1G or 10G/25G ports.
- Redundant power supplies.
The SimpliVity 380 offers flexibility in the choice of hypervisor, with support for both VMware’s vSphere ESXI and Microsoft’s Hyper-V Server. All SimpliVity products leverage Infosight streamlining support and analytics.
The SimpliVity DL380 Gen 10 comes in multiple deployment options:
- SimpliVity 380 Gen10
- SimpliVity 380 Gen10 G
- SimpliVity 380 Gen10 H (SFF and LFF models)
- Simplivity 325 Gen10 Plus v2
All 380 models come with a choice of Intel Xeon processors, while the 325 is built with AMD processors.
The base Gen10 model is a solution meant for data center consolidation and general-purpose storage performance. Useable capacity options before duplication and compression range from 3 TB to 32 TB leveraging all flash storage with 1.5 TB of memory. HPE touts a 10:1 data efficiency ratio lowering TCO and maximizing useable storage capacity.
The 380 Gen10 G adds PCIe expansion and up to 3 TB of memory. The added memory makes it perfect for VDI and multi-GPU image processing. The same all flash storage options apply.
The Gen10 H adds a hybrid storage option to the Gen10G, allowing a mix of SSDs and HDDs. HDD configurations include up to 20 x 1.2TB drives. This configuration is appropriate for general virtualization use cases, high-capacity mixed workloads, and backup. The Gen10 H comes in both small form factor (SFF) and large form factor (LFF) drive options.
HPE also offers the SimpliVity 325 Gen10 Plus v2. The 325 is a 1U option and AMD based (rather than Intel for the 380). It is also a single-socket server. The smaller footprint, and lower cost make it perfect for edge computing and branch office deployments. Customers can deploy the HPE 380 at the primary data center, with 325 nodes at secondary sites, lowering total cost of ownership. The 325 Gen10 Plus v2 comes with up to 2 TB of memory and 10 TB of usesable SSD storage capacity before deduplication and compression
SimpliVity products are backed by the HPE SimpliVity Guarantee. Touted as the storage industry’s most complete guarantee, the SimpliVity Guarantee covers the following categories:
- Hyperefficient: 90% capacity savings when compared to traditional storage solutions when properly configured.
- Hyperprotected: Complete a local backup or local restore in less than 1 minute for a 1 TB virtual machine.
- Hypersimple: The Simplivity solution dramatically simplifies management with only three clicks to backup, restore, clone or move a virtual machine.
- Hyperavailable: Replace systems without any downtime, disruptions, reconfiguration, or readdressing of IPs.
Hardware configurations covered under the SimpliVity Guarantee and warranty information can be found in the HPE Simplivity 380 and 325 QuickSpecs. All SimpliVity nodes come with HPE’s three-year parts, labor and onsite support warranty with next business day response. HPE Simplivity Gen10 node prices vary by configuration.
